PROJECT SUMMARY
Sorghum has traditionally been under-served in terms of insurance programs. Group Risk Protection (GRP) and Group Risk Income Protection (GRIP) is a new insurance product available to sorghum producers in certain geographical areas. This project is aimed at educating sorghum producers on the use and availability of GRP/GRIP through a broad spectrum of communication tools, including the Web, mass mailings, and mass communication. The project will also develop a Comparative Database that will evaluate GRP/GRIP versus other sorghum insurance products. Comparative information will be available through the offices of the National Grain Sorghum Producers (NGSP). This education program will be initially directed at the membership of this non-profit commodity organization of 1700 members. Producer meetings will also target non-members throughout the sorghum belt, which is a multi-regional area. NGSP will work with the Texas Tech University’s Department of Agricultural Economics to develop informational material for delivery to sorghum producers.
