PROJECT SUMMARY
This project is designed to help alleviate two of the most prevalent risk factors associated with minority and socially disadvantaged producers in Louisiana: marketing risk and financial risk. Through a series of workshops, producers will become more familiar with alternative enterprises, niche marketing, the necessity of diversifying, developing marketing plans and conducting whole-farm analyses. Participants actual knowledge of the concepts and practices mentioned above will be gauged by using a pretest at the beginning of the workshops and a post test at the conclusion. As the process continues, participants will be further evaluated through farm and home visits, mailed surveys and interviews. At the conclusion of the project, participants will be more familiar with the income earning potential of their farm enterprise, will have developed a marketing plan and conducted a whole-farm analysis.
