PROJECT SUMMARY
MFS is a long term risk management education program to deliver to committed, selected set of farm/ranch families. Educators were trained to use materials and script to team teach functions of management, goal setting, stress management, policy & strategic evaluation. Program is built around basic model that (1) mission, objectives and goals describe where the farm family wants to be; (2) strategy and tactics are how to get there; and (3) problem solving brings the two together to better manage risk. The workshop provided tactical/strategic management skills to enable farm families to comprehensively address challenges in today´s rapidly changing world. The program has moved to a new phase, and is being adapted for specialty crop production, such as orchard crops. Also, an unanticipated benefit has been the establishment of a risk management library with summaries available as appropriate.
