| PROJECT SUMMARY |
| Prior research has indicated that precision agriculture (PA) has as much or more potential for reducing production risk as increasing profit. This project provided 11 teams (with a county extension agent and 1 or 2 farmers per team) in Western and Central Kentucky with necessary training and tools to use and help others use PA in managing risk. Three workshops that considered the effects of other risk management techniques such as land tenure (e.g., owned land, crop share) were conducted. Upon completion, participants were able to 1) identify poor yielding areas for removal from production, 2) conduct spatial economic evaluation of Conservation Reserve Program enrollment and 3) use risk maps to identify risky areas in the field. The workshops were well received and considered successful by the participants. An unforeseen outcome was a greater success at general risk management awareness and the implementation time needed to use precision agriculture tools to manage risk. |
