PROJECT SUMMARY
Most teenage kids think they’re invincible! Truly being concerned about “risk” is a concept that is foreign to most of them.

This proposal is the third phase of a youth focused project to teach future agriculturalists about risk management and well informed decision making.

Phase I and II developed a real time, on-line risk management focused agriculture simulator.

Phase III is focused toward the development of a series of curricula lessons that teachers, County Extension Agents, and volunteers can utilize to teach basic risk management concepts to high school aged youth. All lessons will include a say and do section format, include content support, and loop back to utilizing the web simulator (developed during phase I & II)for the experiential component. The say/do format is more easily utilized by lay people concerning a difficult subject matter. The lesson series will include topics in:
(1)What is risk?; (2)Yield risk & insurance tools; (3)Price risk & management tools;
(4)Financial risk & debt management; (5)General Business Risk (liability, workers comp, asset protection); (6)Putting It All Together.
