PROJECT SUMMARY
The objective of this project is to create a handbook that includes historical price and basis tables for grain markets (soybeans, corn, and wheat) in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. This information will fill a void that currently exists of only limited and dated information available to producers, extension agents, and lenders relating to historical basis in the Southeast. In addition, this handbook will include educational materials and examples on how this information can be utilized to make more informed marketing decisions. More informed decisions will ultimately lead to an improved bottom line and even less risky marketing practices being undertaken by producers in the Southeast region. This proposal has been formulated in response to reoccurring requests from producers and influencers, and participation rates for insurance and marketing instruments at levels that could be improved substantially. The handbook will provide estimates and also demonstrate to producers how basis can be used in developing a balanced risk management marketing plan.
