PROJECT SUMMARY
Minority and limited resource farmers in the Arkansas Delta face increasing hardships and a bleak future in farming. They have been an under served audience in that few attempts have been made to educate them about risk management tools. This project, a joint program of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Small Outreach Program and other federal agencies and groups, will provide a series of workshops, literature and individual training on risk management. The objective is to increase and preserve income through incorporation of appropriate risk management tools. However, emphasis will be made on encouraging and assisting farmers to dervisfy into alternative crops and join co-ops to increase marketing potential. In addition, they will also be educated and encouraged to implement conservation programs which will enhance the environment and provide additional farm income.
