PROJECT SUMMARY
This project included a comprehensive approach to risk management education by providing outreach and education to small farmers, African American, women, and limited-resource farmers by building on, and enhancing, Kentucky State University´s existing program efforts. This project included family as well as farmer training in the areas of financial risk management, insurance and estate planning, production and marketing risk management, family budgeting, family decision-making, alternative farm enterprises, direct and local marketing systems, income tax planning, and organic and alternative production systems. Educational initiatives included train the trainer, one on one education, workshops, group meetings, field days and conferences. The educational programs addressed the management of production, marketing, financial and human capital risks. Collaborators: The Southern Sustainable Agriculture Working Group. Advisory and support non-profit organizations: the Organic Kentucky Producers Association and the Kentucky Community Farm Alliance.
