| PROJECT SUMMARY |
The Computer and Record-keeping Training Project (CRTP) targets farmers in the U.S. Virgin Islands, a United States territory in the Northeast Caribbean. The CRTP will have 75% of participants increase their knowledge and use of computers. To encourage a greater exchange of agricultural-related information among stakeholders, 60% of participants will increase their knowledge and use of communication and interaction capabilities. To increase farmers’ chances of being awarded financial assistance, CRTP will attempt to have 50% of participants increase their knowledge and use of skills and practices related to farm operational and financial data statements.
Over a twelve-week period, 24 three-hour sessions will be held per target group. Utilizing standard classroom instruction, tutorials, and practical demonstrations, two courses will be held per year in each district (30 participants per year from throughout the St. Croix district and 20 participants from throughout the St. Thomas-St. John-Water Island district). The two computer labs, at their respective locations at the University of the Virgin Islands on the island of St. Croix and at the Estate Tutu Housing Community Center on the island of St. Thomas, will be accommodating these participants whose farms are spread throughout the length and breadth of the scattered landscape that make up the twin-district, quad-island U.S. territory. Milestone accomplishments will be measured by surveys. |
