| PROJECT SUMMARY |
| Many farmers are entering into contract arrangements to grow their crops and raise their animals. This practice is near-universal among poultry growers and growing in other sectors. If farmers sign contracts without a good understanding of the terms of the contracts—the obligations, rights, and compensation—they can be putting themselves at risk. Farmers´ Legal Action Group (FLAG) and the Rural Advancement Foundation International-USA (RAFI)wrote a number of farmer-friendly materials on production contracts and direct marketing contracts to help farmers better understand contracts and thus make better business decisions. In easy-to-understand yet accurate language, these educational materials clearly point out the risks and the rewards that farmers may face. FLAG and RAFI conducted informational meetings to discuss the materials and to allow farmers to discuss challenges they had faced. |
