PROJECT SUMMARY
The Agricultural Economics Department at Mississippi State University and the Federal Land Bank Association of South Mississippi, FLCA (FLB) have a unique opportunity to develop and deliver risk management planning education. FLB serves an area where cattle, poultry and forestry are the predominant enterprises. These enterprises have not been the focus of traditional risk management products or educational programs. This program will be based on benchmark data created using financial records of FLB borrowers. The representative farms developed during the course of this project allowed producers to see their weaknesses and adopt appropriate risk management strategies. A series of train-the-trainer meetings and written publications were used to explain how to use the benchmarks as a risk reduction tool.
