PROJECT SUMMARY
This project focuses on reaching Socially Disadvantaged farm operators, primarily African American grain producers in east and southeast Arkansas, with risk management education through monthly peer group meetings and by diffusing support for risk management throughout the regions’ minority farm network. Two groups of producers will be organized and provided with a three-hour overview of management strategies to address production and marketing risks. These groups will continue to meet throughout the year in self-guiding peer education sessions. Another 15 farm advisors and mentor farmers will take part in a 2 ½ day risk management education Training-of-Trainers workshop. By the start of the next growing season, 35 of the 50 participating producers will have implemented selected risk management practices.
