PROJECT SUMMARY
Subject: Soybean Rust. Our project will empower soybean producers to identify, control, and manage the soybean rust pathogen. It will also allow soybean producers to assess the financial implications of the rust threat, in terms of choosing an economically feasible crop mix given the threat of rust infestation.

Method: We will develop educational materials, teach educators and producers about the soybean rust situation, and share results with soybean producers and educators throughout the U.S. via the internet and paper presentations.

Target Audience: Initially we will focus on Tennessee educators and farmers, but we will also share the results with all interested individuals and organizations.

Number of Classes/Workshops. We will conduct 2 to 3 inservice workshops, depending on the locations chosen, for extension and TDA (Tennessee Department of Agriculture) personnel. Then we will also present the material in producer and professional meetings. These meetings will include county, regional, and state producer meetings. We estimate up 10 such meetings will be held.

Expected Results: Empower soybean growers to make sound risk management decisions based on research and facts, including planting and crop mix decisions. Through our efforts at UT, and project collaborators at the Tennessee Department of Agriculture and the Tennessee Soybean Promotion Board, we plan to reach 25% of the soybean growers in Tennessee.
