PROJECT SUMMARY
This project educates small-scale and limited-resource producers in Kentucky/Tennessee to manage farm risks through production and marketing diversification using available farm resources, managing finances by record keeping, enterprise budgets and cash flow statements, and producing high quality products by using pest management techniques with limited chemical/drug use. There will be an initial survey eliciting information on producers´ resources and farming practices. A workshop will be held with 3 sessions on financial planning through record keeping, budgets, etc.(Financial Planning Session); income, costs, resource needs, and markets associated with small scale aquaculture, meat goat, apiculture, and pastured poultry operations (Diversification Session); and a low-input Pest Management Session. Six months after the workshop, producers will be surveyed on: 1) changes in their production and marketing plans, and 2) current record keeping/financial management practices.
