PROJECT SUMMARY
An integrated educational program combining lectures, applications, case studies and marketing games will educate the target audience on managing beef cattle price risk. Topics to be covered include calculating breakeven prices, market outlook and the cattle cycle, futures and options and the economics of retained ownership. The audience will also learn how to effectively cull and market brood cows and evaluate feeder calves from a buyer’s perspective in order to capture market premiums.

Follow-up local meetings will be conducted to reinforce the risk-management concepts taught at the workshops. These follow-up meetings will be used to provide updated market outlook and price potential as well as addressing specific workshop topics in greater detail.

As a result, producers will be able to calculate breakeven prices, form price expectations, and implement marketing strategies. It is expected that attendees will collaborate with extension agents, specialists, or industry experts in improving their risk management practices.
