| PROJECT SUMMARY |
In recent years, approximately 600 Hmong families have become poultry farmers in Arkansas and Oklahoma. Many of these Hmong poultry producers are experiencing considerable financial stress. About 100 have either initiated or will initiate bankruptcy. This project will help Hmong producers who are not yet in bankruptcy understand their financial situation, the factors that have contributed to their situation, how they can manage their costs more effectively, and how to evaluate alternatives to improve profitability so they can continue to successfully own and operate farm businesses.
As a result of this project Hmong poultry producers will learn how to increase their farm profitability, will develop their own production budgets based on actual costs and will learn how to use financial projections to evaluate alternative management options. Financially stressed producers will learn how to approach lenders to initiate discussions and how to seek help before entering bankruptcy.
