PROJECT SUMMARY
The objective of this educational program was to assist beef producers who were stockering and backgrounding calves, as well as those who retained ownership of cattle for finishing, to learn to use price risk management tools such as futures and options markets, forward price contracts, and basis contracts. In addition livestock marketing agencies and lending institutions were to be trained in the use of the aforementioned tools. Participants were to learn the mechanics of how each tool is used to manage price risk on cattle owned as well as for feed ingredients which are purchased. The program was to make use of county and area workshops, marketing clubs,as well as written and web-based materials and decision aids.
