| PROJECT SUMMARY |
| The Census of Agriculture shows that between 1997 and 2002 in Arkansas, the number of farms operated by Hispanics increased by 103.3%. Our recent work suggests that Hispanic producers seek access to financial (regarding business records and insurance) and legal (regarding employees and estate planning) information in Spanish to manage business and personal (family) risks. The objectives of this project are to address these challenges through: 1) six workshops throughout the state conducted in the Spanish language, 2) a Spanish language risk management guidebook and 3) a Spanish language website with risk management information. It is anticipated that 200 producers will participate in the workshops and 100 will access web-based information. We expect at least 50% of all workshop participants to adopt at least one risk management strategy. Our project is supported and will be promoted by producers and organizations with strong ties to the Hispanic community. |
