PROJECT SUMMARY
Horticultural production is the most capital and labor intensive agricultural activity in the U.S. The industry produces the healthiest foods available and particularly needed in the U.S. where obesity has become the leading health threat to the population and the tax costs to manage this problem are increasing rapidly. Yet, the industry is significantly underserved in terms of the availability of government sponsored and/or consultants available to provide risk management support for the industry.

We propose to develop and deliver a comprehensive set of educational materials for horticultural producers in Texas. Specifically, the educational program will deliver information regarding 1) labor law, rights and obligations, immigration issues, reform, news, related information; and 2) market information, research results, insurance products, and marketing strategies. We will deliver the program in partnership with different horticultural grower associations through direct contact, on-line access, and participation at annual meetings.
