| PROJECT SUMMARY |
Female farmers are not taken into consideration in the design and implementation of educational programs. They represent 30 % of participants in AES training activities. They seldomly consider themselves as farmers. Anecdotal evidence suggests women are actively managing and making decisions in the farm business, either solo or as partners. There is an urgent need to educate them on use and implementation of financial and production risk management strategies. Along with the economic and agricultural sciences components, human/soft skills were included to help farmers go beyond being skilled managers and to think of themselves as entrepreneurs. A needs assessment study documents the above. A group of 60 participants attended Wednesday morning training sessions, during two semesters, consisting of hands-on and workshops. Initial impact was anticipated on 30 farmers who will make changes. Spillover effects on 50 additional farmers are also expected.
