PROJECT SUMMARY
Direct marketing is among the most rapidly growing market sectors in Virginia and North Carolina. For producers who are new to agriculture or transitioning from commodity market production, however, direct marketing presents a new set of requirements and risks. The initial investment stage is particularly risky, as it involves significant investment on the part of the producer, but the producer has little experience with the market or its requirements, and minimal or no communications network by which receive support and help.

This project will offer an educational program and resources that will help reduce risk by providing information and tools that enable producers to make better investment, production, management and marketing decisions. It will offer an educational program and resources to direct marketers to reduce their risk of business failure either through poor investment decisions, or product or other business liability problems.
