PROJECT SUMMARY
Kentucky State University will work with Langston University and Alabama A&M University to deliver educational programs to meat goat and sheep producers. In the area of business planning and budgeting, they will utilize the “Risk-Assessed Business Planning for Small Producers” curriculum, Langston University’s Web Based Training and Certification Program for Meat Goat Producers (or its manual version), or a similar University system. In the area of marketing alternatives, Kentucky State University, Langston University and Alabama A&M University will conduct at least one educational tour each to see and study alternative markets. Additionally, workshops focusing on economics, enterprise budgets, livestock (goat or sheep) farm management and production risk management, ethnic markets and ethnic consumers will be held at the Universities, county producer meetings, goat association meetings, field days, Goat Days and/or Kentucky State University´s “Third Thursdays”. A Goat Summit on Business Planning and production was held October, 2008.
