PROJECT SUMMARY
As a result of a producer survey, ten intensive two-day short courses designed to address marketing and management issues identified by producers as important to their future success were offered across Texas. These courses included: Pulling the Trigger, Developing this Year’s Marketing Plan (commodity specific for feedgrains, cotton, and wheat), Advanced Futures and Options and Advanced Technical Analysis. Teaching methods utilized were a balance of lecture, problem solving, small group work and simulation exercises to provide participants with a positive, hands-on, learning environment.
Seven of the Advanced Topic Series (ATS) courses were taught and three were cancelled due to a lack of registration. A total of 127 producers attended the seven courses. A myriad of factors contributed to course attendance problems including: delayed funding reducing advertising time for the early classes, confusion over the new farm program, poor course site selection and weather-related problems.
