PROJECT SUMMARY
The targets of this project were improved understanding and use of 1) direct, wholesale and processing markets; and 2) contract production, branded or certified marketing and value-added enterprises. We organized four, one-day workshops in New Mexico. We targeted organic producers who want to develop/access the following markets: CSA/on-farm sales; farmers´ markets/retail grocery and restaurants; value-added/on-farm processing. This project grew out of experience with RME-supported workshops held last year and inquiries from producers in New Mexico (which have more than quadrupled this year). Forty-eight producers attended the workshops. Of these all reported that they had improved their understanding of a new market, 37 drew up a plan to enter the new market and 11 have successfully entered that market 6 months following participation in the workshop.
