Summary  
PROJECT SUMMARY
This project addresses the business risk associated with a less than full understanding of the portfolio of risk management options available to cotton producers and their service industry providers and failure to commit to a written marketing plan based on individual objectives and preferences. Target participants will attend a 1.5 day seminar designed to provide increased understanding of the options available to develop a written marketing plan including futures, options, hedging, pricing strategy, government programs, insurance and supply/demand fundamentals. The class size will be limited to 30 participants made up of cotton producers and/or producers with diversified farming operations, gin managers and lenders from the Central San Joaquin Valley counties of Kern, Kings and Fresno. By four months from the seminar 21 participants will have developed written marketing plans. In addition, 26 participants will report improved understanding of the issues covered in the seminar.
